Our Comb Generator is a small and portable RF signal source used for calibration of EMC testing setups. Unlike similar reference source emitters our models operate wirelessly, thus there are no cables that might interfere with the radiated output of the device itself. Powered by rechargeable internal batteries that last up to 18 hours when fully charged. Charger and batteries are included with each unit.
The RF Comb Generator is made of high quality and stable components to minimize variations at the output. By using mono-pole antennas, the output reference signal is uniformly radiated in all directions. Our reference signal sources are originally designed for EMC site testing, but alternatively they can also function as a RF noise source for testing shielding effectiveness, filters and cables.
EMC test laboratories calibrate their entire radiated emissions testing sites and instruments every year. To calibrate testing sites is complex and time consuming procedures must be followed. Although calibrating is done every year, it does not prevent failure of the used testing instrumentation and accessories in between calibration periods.
To increase the accuracy or reliability of measurements performed in your EMC test facility, you have to verify proper functionality of the testing equipment frequently. In an ideal situation verification of the entire setup is done daily to eliminate damaged cables, poor connections or malfunctioning testing antennas. To perform the full calibration procedure each time is not practical.
Malfunctioning equipment used during EMC testing results in bad readings and faulty data. An RF Comb Generator can avoid these situations by monitoring a few frequencies on its broadband radiated output regularly. This is an efficient and quick technique to check the entire testing setup for potential problems. Identifying these problems before starting the actual testing will prevent incorrect measurements.
Currently we supply 9 different models, each with a specific frequency range and step size. The signal contains frequency harmonics at specified intervals, depending on the frequency step size. Some of our RF comb generators can operate with switchable step sizes.

The CGC series are conducted reference generators which are designed to test installed Line Impedance Stabilization Networks (LISN) used for conducted emissions testing according to CISPR, FCC Part 15 and EN standards. The comb generator’s output has the harmonics of the fundamental frequency and simulates a conducted EMI noise. These models have the standard NEMA three blade connector that can be plugged directly into any Line Impedance Stabilization Network with the matching EuT power socket. It can be attached to any other socket type using a suitable adapter.
