Horn Antennas for Emissions and EMC Radiated Immunity testing

Our Horn Antennas are used for emissions and immunity testing up to 40 GHz. They are made from lightweight, corrosion-resistant aluminium which is perfect for outdoor and indoor applications. Our models are typically constructed of a cylindrical waveguide, which is closed at one end and flares into a conical or pyramidal shaped horn at the other end.

The benefit of using a horn type is its low VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio), moderate directivity and wide bandwidth. Usually these antennas only have a slight loss – so their gain is equal with their directivity.

We have a diverse selection of eight modern horn antennas which are configured to detect specific frequency ranges of up to 40 GHz. They all have exceptional efficiency, and some of the antennas have built-in preamplifiers for improved sensitivity.

The first category consists of standard gain antennas. These are passive antennas with a pyramid-shaped design. We have 2 models which can be used as a receiving or transmitting antenna for various testing applications. Specifications of each antenna can be found on the individual product pages scrolling down.

  • The AH-826 model is our first standard gain, broadband horn antenna, linearly polarised and covers a frequency range of 18 GHz up to 26.5 GHz. The AH-826 is fitted with a high quality SMA (female) connector and waveguide to coaxial adapter.
  • Our second model is the AH-640 and can establish radiated RF fields, making it suitable for product immunity tests. The AH-640 can detect all frequencies between 26.5 GHz and 40 GHz. Equipped with a waveguide to coaxial adapter and fitted with a K-type (2.92mm) high quality coaxial connector.

The second category consist of one model, the AH-8055. This is a high gain antenna, which is simply a horn antenna with a high isotropic gain. It operates between 800 MHz and 5 GHz with incredible efficiency, and can even extend its range up to 6.5 GHz.

The third category is the double-ridged, (passive) horn antenna. Consisting of three waveguide antenna models that are considered as a passive instrument. They are widely used for various international standards - immunity and emissions testing. The 3 antennas cover a frequency of 700 MHz up to 40 GHz.

  • The AH-220 model is specifically designed to be the default (receiving) antenna for radiated emissions measurements according to MIL-STD-461 (RE102). For radiated immunity testing, the AH-220 can also function as a transmitting antenna. Power Handling (Continuous Wave) of 800 Watts and covers a frequency range of 200 MHz up to 2 GHz.
  • The AH-118 model is our customers favourite because it covers such a wide frequency range and operates with an outstanding efficiency between the 1 GHz and 18 GHz frequency range. This antenna is a trustworthy and perfect choice for EMC radiated immunity testing and emissions measurements and is even useable from 700 MHz if necessary.
  • Our AH-840 model can detect all frequencies between 18 GHz and 40 GHz. It is broadband, linearly polarised antenna and is fitted with a high-quality, K-type, coaxial connector. This antenna combines the AH-826 and AH-640 frequency range into one single antenna. It also includes a waveguide to coaxial adapter (precisely tuned) with 2.9mm connector.

The last category, consisting of 2 models, is the active double-ridged antenna, meaning they are equipped with a built-in preamplifier. For more accurate readings, an integrated preamplifier can amplify noise signal directly at the antenna output – maintaining the signal level above the noise floor.

  • The AHA-118 is the first active antenna model. It has a built-in low-noise preamplifier with a high-gain of 40 dB for enhanced sensitivity while performing measurements. With excellent flexibility, the AHA-118 can detect all frequencies between 700 MHz and 18 GHz.
  • Then there's the AHA-840 which operates between the frequencies 18 GHz and 40 GHz. It features a precision waveguide to coaxial adapter and has an integrated low-noise, high-gain, broadband preamplifiers. The AHA-840 has low antenna factors and is built (including the preamp) into a single, durable, custom made assembly which can be configured for most applications for excellent flexibility.

All of the horn antennas are calibrated individually to SAE ARP958 by NIST. The data and appropriate certificate is included with each antenna. All test equipment manufactured by Com-Power comes with a three-year warranty period.
