The AL-130 active loop antenna is used for testing shielding effectiveness and emissions measurements inside the frequency range 9 kHz to 30 MHz.
This antenna can also be called the 'magnetic loop antenna', because of its ability to measure magnetic fields (H-Fields) as well as electric fields (E-Fields).

The AL-130 features a loop-shaped antenna with a size of 19 inches x 19 inches (including electrostatic shield) and an integrated preamplifier. As a complete antenna, its height is 51 cm, its width is 50 cm, and its diameter is 27 cm. At a weight of 2.5 kg, the AL-130 is also reasonably portable.
Its low noise preamplifier helps to improve measurement sensitivity and overall signal-to-noise ratio. It runs on a 6 Volt NimH battery pack which is 100% rechargeable and can last up to 12 hours. You can charge the battery with an included power adapter.
The AL-130 has a front panel which shows charging status, amplifier saturation, and battery level. The antenna also uses a BNC-type connector (female), has a dynamic range of 110 dB at 1MHz, and a nominal impedance of 50 Ohm.
This antenna specialises in open-field emissions testing under a frequency level of 30 MHz. The AL-130 is also used for regulatory compliance measurements such as CISPR 22, FCC 18, CISPR 16-1-4 and many more.
During testing, the AT-220 antenna stand should be positioned so its plane is vertical with the centre-point of its loop antenna raised 1 metre off the ground. This gives the antenna enough space to rotate between a horizontal and vertical polarisation.
Depending on the particular distance from the equipment under test, the magnetic loop antenna can maximise emissions and achieve optimal readings at each frequency, every time the loop is rotated.
The AL-130 antenna is individually calibrated to IEEE 291 regulation (1 metre distance) and is traceable with NIST. We supply the appropriate certificate and data with the product. ISO 17025 accredited calibration can also be provided upon request.
Our AT-220 antenna stand is compatible with the AL-130 loop antenna, which can be mounted from 1 metre to 1.2 metres. This means that the centre-point of the antenna loop can be adjusted between 0.95 metres and 1.35 metres. Supporting the AL-130 is simple using the ¼ inch x 20 mounting holes. These can attach on to any mast or tripod which is compatible.
You can also mount the AL-130 using our AT-812 antenna tripod which can adjust the centre-point of the antenna to heights between 1.08 metres and 1.58 metres. Both tripods be found in the 'related products' section on the right side of this page.
The antenna factor is used by RF and EMC engineers to describe the electric field strength needed to produce 1 Volt at the antenna terminals. Using the sum of Measured Voltage + Active E-field antenna factor you can calculate the E-field field strength of the antenna.
Also, the antenna factor shows what the antenna's received voltage is when an electric field is present. As shown in the above graph, the AL-130 active loop antenna has an E-field antenna factor fluctuating from 13.4 to 16.4 [dB(m-1)], and an average E-field antenna factor of 14.9 [dB(m-1)]. From this data, you can gather that the antenna factor variation is ±1.5 dB.
